Identifying the Signs of Addiction Associated With Drug and Alcohol Use
Posted by admin in Drug Abuse on August 2, 2011
When identifying the signs of addiction, it is important to know that while drug and alcohol use and abuse each manifest themselves as different behavioral changes and inconsistencies, they share a number of commonalities. This is not meant to be an all-inclusive list of signs of drug and/or alcohol addiction, but is instead a list of the most common signs that someone is suffering from addiction.
Often, addicts and alcoholics are the last to know that they have a problem, because they cannot see the outward signs of addiction. They attempt to hide their use from loved ones, escaping to a “safe” space such as a bar after work, or a spot in the garage where they can be alone to drink or use. The addict believes that he or she is keeping the drug or alcohol use secret from everyone else, when in fact, the physical and behavioral signs of addiction are often immediately apparent.
Isolation
As noted, one of the behavioral changes associated with addiction is isolation. Addicts often cite drug or alcohol use as a way to deal with stress, or just “relax after a hard day”, and will either emotionally withdraw but still partake in their substance abuse in the presence of family and friends, or solitarily by escaping to a quiet spot in the home to drink or use alone. Other signs of addiction are when addicts attempt to hide their use completely, and make lengthy trips outside of the home; for example, a five-minute trip to get a pack of cigarettes or milk from the grocery store will turn into a five hour disappearance, during which time the addicted person will have gone to a friend’s house or a bar to engage in drug or alcohol use. Ways to Pay for Online Nursing Programs
Online nursing programs have become so popular these days that the schools have had to start turning many applicants down. The reason why they have become so popular is because of how convenient they are. In short, if you are a busy adult or single parent you can take the classes around your schedule. Though this is a major plus, there are also a few disadvantages. The biggest disadvantage is that the online nursing programs can be quite a bit of money. That said, it is important to understand the different things that you can do in order to pay for the tuition.
The thing that most people do first when they are applying for online nursing programs is to look into federal financial aid. Federal aid is helpful as you will be awarded monies to help pay for your cost. The thing with financial aid is to make sure that you apply for it as soon as possible. If you wait to apply right before the program starts you will not have enough time to get your funds together. Ask the financial aid office at the school you are attending for advice on when and how to apply for federal financial aid.
When you do get your financial aid back you will be awarded loans and grants. Loans are a way to pay for college that many people look into. The thing about loans, however, is that once you finish the nursing program you will have to pay all of the loan money back as well as interest on it. In addition, you may not be awarded enough federal loan money to pay all of your bills. When this happens you have to look into getting loans from third part lenders. The interest rates from these third party lenders are typically pretty high. Read the rest of this entry »
Benefits of Public Health Education

Public health education can be considered an ambiguous term. It teaches the proper way to improve one’s health, and can involve only one or two people, or the population of several countries. Anything that can seriously threaten the physical, mental, or spiritual health of a wide range of people, notably due to their interactions with one another, can be classified as a threat to the community’s public health. This is why public health education becomes a necessary tool to aid people against the spread of potential diseases and illnesses. Five of the most important reasons of how public health education can prove beneficial are as follows:
1. People are able to learn how to prevent the spread of communicable diseases through the training and methods being taught in education. People are able to have better access to information regarding general prevention of diseases, including the knowledge of what to do and how to act during epidemics in their area. Certain diseases have their own individual prevention methods that people should be well aware of, and employing these techniques lessens the risk of being infected by possible diseases. Through public health education, even simple things such as wearing a flu mask in particularly affected areas, or knowing when to take vaccines for a particular illness that is prominent at that time of the year, always proves very effective in limiting the number of people affected annually.
